Our Mission

Our mission is to empower Black students in Minnesota to succeed in law school and the legal profession.

While the MABL Pathways Scholars are not required to attend a Minnesota Law School, they are introduced to local law school admissions Directors and Counselors and strongly encouraged to apply to one of the three Minnesota Law Schools.

Happy College Student

OUR PROGRAM

MABL Law School Pathways Scholars learn about what it takes to get accepted into law school, what it takes to excel in law school, and what it takes to excel in the legal profession.

01

Pathways Application Process

Interested students should submit an application through our website. Please reach out to us if you need assistance completing your application.

Ten to twenty juniors, seniors, and alums of Minnesota universities and colleges are selected each year as “MABL Pathways Scholars.” Upon admittance to the Program, the MABL Pathways Scholars participate in boot camp-type pre-law school programming.

02

Getting Accepted into Law School

MABL Pathways Scholars will meet with law students, visit law courts and firms, and engage in conversations with lawyers, judges, and elected officials to become acquainted with the wide variety of career opportunities available to law school graduates and the work and self-care habits of successful legal professionals. Scholars also enroll in a commercial Law School Admission Test ("LSAT") preparation course. Here, they work with course instructors, Pathways faculty, staff, peer mentors, and current law students, to guide them and monitor their progress leading up to them taking the LSAT.

03

Excelling in Law School

Law School faculty, practicing attorneys, and peer mentors will meet regularly with Pathways Scholars to advise them on the skills needed to excel during the critically important first year of law school. Such skills include note-taking, outlining, exam preparation, and the other skills necessary to succeed in law school. We also work with students on a wide range of non-academic issues, including emotional and physical well-being, managing family matters and expectations, and finances, each of which can interfere with academic success.

04

Success After Law School

Even after the MABL Pathways Scholars graduate from law school, they will still bel supported by the Program.  We help with career advice, as well development of the skills necessary to excel in the legal profession.
